With the Voidstones you can increase the level of your maps in the Atlas. There are four different Voidstones in Path of Exile, which you can get in individual boss fights.
At the very bottom center of your atlas, you’ll find a place with four empty sockets. If you don’t see any pedestals yet, it’s because you haven’t unlocked them yet. The sockets will only appear after you have received the first voidstone. You can put the four different voidstones into these sockets as soon as you get them. There are four different voidstones in Path of Exile:
- Ceremonial Voidstone (dropped by the Seer)
- Decayed Voidstone (dropped by the Uber Elder)
- Omniscient Voidstone (dropped by the Eater of Worlds)
- Grasping Voidstone (dropped by the Searing Exarch)
Voidstones allow you to upgrade your maps to four levels per voidstone. So if you have one voidstone socketed, all maps are level four, if you have two voidstones socketed, they are level eight, and so on.
How to reach the bosses in Path of Exile
Firstly, a warning. Voidstones are available late in the endgame because they are dropped by the big bosses in the game.
Eater of Worlds and Searing Exarch
The first two Voidstones, those for defeating the Searing Exarch and the Eater of Worlds, you’ll get “automatically” if you push your Atlas far enough.
Once you play level three maps, Envoy will eventually appear on a map. Its appearance will automatically unlock symbols on your map device. The first encounter will give you an icon for the Maven, and the next two encounters will give you icons for the Exarch and the Eater of Worlds. When you place a map in your device, then activate one of these three symbols, and then open the map, you play the map under the influence of the respective boss.
To get to the Exarch and the Eater of Worlds, you simply have to finish maps under the influence of these bosses. In doing so, the game will require you to complete higher and higher levels of maps. Before you get to the two endgame bosses, however, you have to defeat various sub-bosses, such as the “Infinite Hunger”.
You get to these through invitations dropped by ordinary map bosses. Which step you need to take next is also shown on the right side of the screen.
In addition, the same three symbols as in your map device are displayed in the atlas above the sockets for the voidstones. There you can check how many maps you still have to run to get an invitation to the boss.
If you have progressed far enough, at the end of a map, you’ll get an invitation to the Exarch and the Eater of Worlds. If you defeat them, you’ll get the respective voidstone.
The Maven and Uber Elder
The other two voidstones are even harder to get, because the fights against the Maven and Uber Elder are the most difficult in the game.
How to get to the Maven
Just like the Exarch or the Eater of Worlds, you must first run maps under the Maven’s influence and defeat the map boss. This boss will be “collected” by the Maven. Once you’ve defeated three bosses this way, you’ll get a Maven Invitation in which you’ll face all three bosses at once. Once you’ve done that, it continues in the same way, but now with four map bosses, then five, and so on, until finally, you’re fighting ten bosses at once.
In addition to these Atlas Invitations, there are other, more difficult Maven Invitations, such as “The Feared”. You get these special invites when you defeat certain map bosses under Maven influence, for “The Feared” for example:
- Cortex
- Chayula’s Domain
- The Alluring Abyss
- The Shaper’s Realm
- The Absence of Value and Meaning
For all of these fights, you’ll then get the Crescent Splinter as a reward. The special invitations are a lot harder than the fights against the ten map bosses, but they also drop more Crescent Splinters. Once you have a total of ten Splinters, you can face Maven herself and pick up the next Voidstone for a victory.
How to get to the Uber-Elder
The Uber-Elder is the hardest to reach, because you need lots of fragments for it. The Uber-Elder fight consists of a battle in which you face the Elder and the Shaper at the same time. However, to get there, you’ll first have to defeat the Elder and the Shaper individually. That means you have to get to those two bosses first, and for that, you need the so-called Guardians. Guardians are level 16 maps that can drop from level 14 maps.

There are four Guardians of the Void and four Elder Guardians that can be found as bosses in the following eight cards:
The four Guardians of the Void can be found in the following maps:
- Forge of the Phoenix
- Lair of the Hydra
- Labyrinth of the Minotaur
- Pit of the Chimera
The four Elder Guardians are in the following four maps:
- The Eradictor
- The Constrictor
- The Enslaver
- The Purifier
For each boss fight, you get one fragment. When you defeat all four Guardians of the Void, you can use the four fragments to open a portal to the Shaper and fight him. Defeat him and you will get a Shaper-fragment for the Uber Elder. If you defeat all four Elder Guardians, you can open a portal to the Elder.
If you defeat him, you will get an Elder Fragment for the Uber Elder. In total, you need two Shaper Fragments and two Elder Fragments to open a portal to the Uber Elder. For your first victory over the Uber Elder, you will receive the fourth Void Stone.
