Today the third major update of Disney Dreamlight Valley was released and with it came the adorable little cuddly snowman Olaf. This guide is a walkthrough of Olaf's first quest and also includes the gemstone puzzle.
The quest is about this: As soon as you are back in Dreamlight Valley, after the update, a snowstorm is raging in the Frosted Heights. The quest “The Great Blizzard” starts automatically, in which you have to restore the pillar of the Frosted Heights so that the blizzard stops. Also, you'll have to help Olaf get back his nose, buttons, and arms.
The quest activates automatically after the update and starts with you talking to Merlin regarding the snowstorm. He asks you to find the cause of the blizzard, after which you go to Frosted Heights. The cause is the pillar of this biome that you must approach to complete this task. Now you have to interact with the rock wall, for which you just have to turn around so that you can see the giant stone door. Step up to this stone door and interact with it so that it opens. In the following room, you will see Olaf, who has had his nose and buttons stolen by shadowy squirrels, but his arms are also missing.
To help Olaf, your next task is to catch the squirrels, to get him his nose and buttons back. Catching the squirrels is quite simple: you just have to approach them and press the corresponding button. The squirrel will then disappear and you will receive the item. You have to catch a total of four squirrels. Bring the items back to Olaf so that he can put them on immediately. Olaf would like to hug you, which he can't do because of his missing arms. To find them, he suggests that you talk to Elsa.

Elsa tells you that water never forgets, and then tells you to pour water on the water particles at the pillar to see what happened then. Go back to the column and examine where these water particles are, and then pour water on them. You will then see a kind of statue that shows you in the past. You report this to Elsa. After your conversation with Elsa, you go back to Olaf, who points out that there are also water particles in the chamber. Pour water on them as well to get more clues. Through the last statue, you learn that you threw the orb of the pillar, from which Olaf's arms are hanging, through the portal.
To be able to open the portal, you need to find the book about portals, which is located in this chamber. You will notice that there are several books in there. It's worth taking all of them. Once you have the portal book, you have to collect materials for the Dreamlight Prism, which is needed to open the portal. In the chamber, you can already find the first items: The broken prisms. In total, you will need:
After you have gathered everything, you are able to craft the Dreamlight Prism on a workbench. Bring the prism into the chamber to Olaf, where you put it on the pedestal.
After the prism is on the pedestal, you have to find out which gems are missing to open the portal. Specified are garnet, aquamarine, and topaz. The following gems are missing:
This is how the gems are arranged:
Afterward, the portal will open, which enables you to get the orb with Olaf's arms out of the portal. Then give Olaf his arms with the orb back. After he has his arms back, Olaf asks you for a hug, which you do. After that, he gives you back the glowing orb, which you now put into the pillar. By repairing the pillar, the blizzard stops. By talking to Olaf, you finish the quest.
