In the survival game Grounded, you need gnats to farm food and resources, which you can use to create essential items. Our guide will tell you everything about gnats, including how to find and farm them.
This is the Gnat in Grounded
The gnat may be an annoying insect in reality, but in Grounded they are very useful. They provide an important source of resources to craft essential items and food. But they can also be used as pets.
There are three variants of the gnats in Grounded:
- The normal gnat
- The meaty gnat
- The infected gnat
We have prepared a table with the basic information about all gnat variants:
This is how Gnats behave in Grounded
What all Gnat variants have in common is their slow flying speed, which helps you run away from them. Since they sway back and forth in flight, it’s pretty difficult to hit them by using a bow.
Although, gnats of any variety often bother you in Grounded while they leave other insects or creatures alone and occasionally get caught in spider webs.
At night, you may see small swarms of flies buzzing in the light of garden lamps.
Normal Gnat
The normal gnat is “harmless” to you. It may bump or jostle you a few times when it sees you, but this won’t cause any damage. However, by bumping into you, the gnat can easily push you down a slope or put you in a dicey situation. After a few bumps, however, the normal gnat loses interest in you and continues flying, or you make it flee by attacking it.
If you see gnats that stay near flowers, you can observe how they transport pollen through the area, but when they are injured or killed during transport, they will drop the pollen.
Normal gnats can also be tamed and kept as pets, allowing you to transport more items through their inventory.
Meaty Gnat
Meaty gnats are larger than the normal variant and fly much slower but higher. Because of their size, they have more power and can carry larger amounts of spoiled food.
Just like the normal variant, the meaty gnat also likes to jostle you, which can be very dangerous for you due to the cloud of gas surrounding them. For this reason, be sure to put on a gas mask when you are around these critters or kill the gnat directly to avoid getting harmed.
Infected Gnat
Like the other variants, infected gnats will try to bump into you. However, they are much more pushy than their relatives. In addition, as soon as an infected gnat bumps into you, you drop whatever you hold in your hand. This is especially annoying since they will continue to follow you intrusively and won’t stop bumping into you, even after a few times. The good thing is that you don’t receive any damage from them either.
Locations of Gnats in Grounded
If you are looking for gnats, your gaze should be directed upwards because these small fliers don’t land that often.
Normal Gnat: Is often found near flowers in these areas:
- Central Grasslands
- Flooded Zone
- Oak hills
Meaty Gnat: Found in Trash Heap.
Infected Gnat: Is found in the weed killer’s haze until it is sealed. After that, you can find it here:
- Central Grasslands
- Flower Bed
- Moldorc Highlands
How to hunt Gnats in Grounded
If you want to farm gnats for their resources, we recommend distracting them with spoiled meat slurry, which will lead them to sit on the ground to eat it, which enables you to end them.
You can make the spoiled meat slurry in the blender out of spoiled meat. The following applies to cooking the spoiled meat slurry:
- 1x spoiled meat = 1x spoiled meat mash
Despite their erratic flying style, you should take the bow if you want to attack them with a ranged weapon. However, you can also defend yourself with a melee weapon for the more intrusive types of gnats.
