The space extraction shooter Marauders has enjoyed great popularity since its release. In addition to several large main areas, there are also various NPC-controlled spaceships that you can attack. One of them is the Merchant Ship. We will now explain how you find it and what awaits you in it.
What is the Merchant Ship: The Merchant Ship is one of the randomly spawning side areas in Marauders. In addition to the frigate manned by armed AI and smaller ships, which you can even take over completely, the Merchant Ship can also spawn in space. You can recognize it because it is relatively long and has many bays for drop pods. Inside are some lightly armed AI units and a fair amount of gear; at least one quest takes you into the Merchant Ship’s engine room.

Everything you need to know about the Merchant Ship from Marauders
As explained above, the Merchant Ship is a randomly occurring event. If you are looking for it, you should first look in space every round to see if it hides behind the countless asteroids. Once you’ve spotted it, don’t worry about resistance, should you not be traveling with the Rustbucket, park your ship somewhere safe and sit in one of your drop pods. You can simply use the drop pod to fly to the merchant ship and press F to board the ship. There are AI opponents on the ship, but they are not very well armed.
How the Merchant Ship is built
The ship is divided into three large storage compartments, between these large areas, there are all sorts of small rooms to be found. In the last area, there is also the bridge and the armory. In addition, there is also an area for the injured, the crew cabins, a kind of officer’s area, and much more. So that you can find your way around easily, let’s start at the very beginning.
Shortly after Breaching
If you’re freshly landed on the Merchant Ship, you’ll either land near the engine room or in the first camp by the drop pod bays. Once you have landed in the engine room, there is not much more to do than leave it. However, if you have the quest in which you are supposed to inspect the engine, now is the right moment for it.
Once you have made it out of the engine room, you have arrived at the camp just mentioned, which also contains the bays for the drop pods. Remember that because this is where you must go again if you want to leave the ship. Each large storage compartment has a basement, a main level, and many smaller elevated positions that stairs and narrow walkways can only reach. All over the first compartment, you will find smaller boxes and containers with loot. Not much worth mentioning here yet.
To get to the next storage compartment, take the passage in the basement or go through the crew cabins. This can be reached by a staircase that leads to a door further up. No matter your path, you will end up in the second large storage compartment.
The Second Compartment of the Merchant Ships in Marauders
Once here, you have a large open area in front of you, which is very similar in structure to the first compartment. However, this time there are several rooms that you should visit. So there is a kind of officer’s area on the far right, here you will find a doctor’s bag to get fit again, and under the table, you can often take good armor with you.
On the opposite side is a kind of office space, there are many filing cabinets that you want to clear out. Otherwise, the compartment does not offer much more than the first. However, you should not underestimate the many small rooms, boxes, and toolboxes everywhere. If you’re looking for materials to craft various items, be sure to do some research.
When you’re done here, you should go to the area for the injured, through it, you get to the next compartment, and, in addition to two filing cabinets, you also have two doctor’s bags that you can empty.
Editor’s Tip: As you head up the stairs toward the third compartment, there’s an area with a large black box that you can loot. You must find the connecting piece between the two compartments and jump over the bent fence in the upper area.
The third Compartment with the Merchant Ships Bridge
Arrived in the third and last compartment of the Merchant Ship, you could already see the large bridge enthroned in the middle. On the far right are some drop pods that need repairing, and on the far left, there are some rolling gates, behind each is a small box of loot. There are some cages in the lower area, but overall there isn’t much to gain here, so make your way to the bridge quickly.
For this, you can either take the stairs left and right or go through a room under the bridge, then come out with a set of stairs behind the bridge. There are usually two AI opponents in the bridge, but they do not pose a major threat. In addition to some corpses, which you can relieve of their belongings, there is only the armory here. You have to go up again and to the back of the bridge. The door opens just like that, but a loud siren sounds as it slowly opens. Inside the armory are two lockers, a corpse, two ammo boxes, a wooden box, and a safe. For the latter, you should have a lock pick with you.
If you have filled your bags with everything you would like to take with you, you have to go back to the first compartment. You will only find the drop pods, which you can use to go back to your ship or straight to the exit.
Have you been on one of the Merchant Ships? Or do you even always take them with you when you find one?
