As in many other online role-playing games, New World has different armor classes with different weights. So far, so good! But New World still stands out from the crowd in one important respect.
It’s a well-tried and well-known system: the different armor classes, ranging from simple armor to massive steel plate armor, all have their advantages and disadvantages. Of course, all of these pieces have their weight. In New World, all armor pieces can be divided into three categories:
- Light
- Medium
- Heavy
The respective weight then affects the mobility of your character, as you know. As in any game, the heavier the armor, the more your hero can withstand, but the slower you are.
In New World, the total weight of your armor is crucial
In New World, however, it is not important that a single piece of armor, such as bracers or greaves, is light, medium, or heavy, but rather how heavy the sum of all your equipped pieces is. The decisive factor is whether all the armor items together can be classified as light, medium, or heavy. To compose your armor, there are helpful features like the armor calculator.
You can see how much your total equipped weight is and which of the three weight classes you are in via a vertical bar in your created items. There you can also check how much weight you are missing until the next higher or lower weight class. In addition, you can read in the detailed view which properties and bonuses these three classes bring with them. Mainly, the armor weight affects the mobility of your character, especially for evasion:
- Light Armor: When dodging, your hero performs a quick and elegant dodge roll.
- Medium armor: dodging consists of a jump to the side or back.
- Heavy Armor: Your hero becomes very immobile and only dodges by taking a small step.
So the bottom line is that the armor system comes back to the standard result. The player has to decide, depending on the build or role, whether he wants to be fast and vulnerable or slow and tanky. However, New World offers a very large amount of freedom when putting together armor sets, allowing for a variety of different armor, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
