In the Survival Sandbox game Palworld, you can capture and utilize creatures called Pals, much like in the Pokémon games. Our guide will show you how to capture Pals and what you can use them for.

Here's what you'll learn in this guide:

  • What you need to capture a Pal.
  • How to capture a Pal and important considerations.
  • Why you should capture Pals in the first place.

What you Need to Catch Pals in Palworld

Once you've created your own world in Palworld or joined an existing one, you can start capturing your own Pals to fill your Paldeck. To get started, you mainly need two items:

  1. A weapon, such as a club.
  2. A Pal Sphere, which functions like a Pokéball.

Obtaining a weapon: As you follow the quests at the beginning of the game, you will be prompted to build a workbench. First, you need to learn the necessary recipe for it. You can do this in the Technology Tree (Tab > Technology), which is available to you from the start. Here, you can unlock the recipe for the workbench and the wooden club.

Palworld Technology Skills
Once you've reached Level 2, go ahead and learn the Pal Spheres blueprint.

Once you've done that, press the B key and select the primitive workbench. Place it anywhere and complete its construction using 2 pieces of wood. You can obtain wood by picking up sticks scattered around or by hitting a tree with your fists. Afterward, you can use 5 additional pieces of wood to craft your first Wooden Club, which will serve as your initial melee weapon.

Obtaining Pal Spheres: Once you've gathered some resources, you'll reach Level 2. Now, you can learn Pal Spheres in the Technology Tree and craft them at the workbench using 3 pieces of wood, 3 stones, and 1 paldium fragment. You can find stones, just like wood, scattered on the ground in the area. The small blue crystals - the paldium fragments, can also be found on the ground or obtained by mining Paldium ore with a pickaxe.

How to Capture Pals in Palworld

To capture your first Pal in Palworld, you'll follow a similar process to Pokémon. Find a suitable Pal that is roughly at your level and use your club to weaken it. Once the Pal is weak enough, you can throw a Pal Sphere using the Q key to capture it.

The stronger the Pal is, the lower the chance of a successful capture. If the Pal breaks free, simply try again.

What Pals are Useful for

Once you've captured your first Pal, you can summon it by pressing the E key. Pals can provide various benefits, which we will discuss further in another guide. However, primarily, Pals are useful in several ways:

  • They assist you in combat.
  • They aid you in building your base or crafting items.
  • They gather resources like wood or stone.
  • You can ride, swim, and even fly on them.
Palworld Planting
Pals can also assist you with gardening tasks.

Here are some things to keep in mind: If you actively use Pals in your base, make sure they have a place to sleep and enough food. It's also advisable to provide a relaxation area for your Pals.

As you can see, in Palworld, it makes sense to collect Pals to use them for your purposes. Now that you know how to catch Pals, feel free to share in the comments below which ones you'd like to capture and how you plan to use them.
