Thanks to three storylines with different focuses, there is much to do in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet before the credits flicker across the screen. But even in the post game, there's still plenty to do in the open world of Paldea.
What's going on? You've played through the story of Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet, defeated all the baddies, and become the ultimate Poké-Champ? Then you don't have to put the game aside for a long time because even after the end of the main game, there is still a lot to discover in Paldea.
A total of 400 Pokémon are waiting for you to catch and catalog them in the Pokédex in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet. If you want to complete the Pokédex, you'll not only have to invest a lot of time and patience, but you'll also have to swap individual pocket monsters with friends.
The effort is worth it, though, because when you complete the Pokédex, you can pick up a Shiny Lucky Charm as a reward from Señor Jim, the academy's biology teacher. This item significantly increases your chances of encountering Shiny Pokémon in the wild.
Speaking of Shiny Pokémon: Once you have completed the story of Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet and secured the Shiny Lucky Charm, you can search for Shiny Pokémon. You can find them everywhere in Paldea - and we explain everything you need to know in our Shiny Guide. Also, be sure to use the Sandwich Recipes to increase your chance of getting Shinys in addition to the Lucky Charm.
As in any other Pokémon game, you can catch various legendary and mythological Pokémon in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet. Unlike in traditional Pokémon titles, however, you won't encounter them once during the story, but for the most part you'll be able to catch them after completing the main quests.
Most of the six legendary Pokémon that can be found in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet at launch can be caught at their respective shrines. These are located throughout the open game world. Still, some of them can only be reached if you have first defeated all the Ruler Pokémon and upgraded your Riding Pokémon accordingly.
Traditionally, at some point in every Pokémon game, we get a so-called Master Ball, which allows us to catch any Pokémon with a 100 percent chance. Once you've completed the main story of Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet and watched the credits, you can visit the academy's director in his office and pick up your Master Ball from him. However, the Master Ball is only available once – so you should think carefully about when to use it.
Once you've picked up your Master Ball, you can talk to top champ Sagaria. He will ask you to defeat the gym leaders of Paldea again. This time, however, they send significantly stronger Pokémon at levels 65 and 66 into battle – so you can prepare yourself for a proper challenge, a kind of New Game Plus.
You've defeated all the Arena Leaders a second time and still haven't had enough? Then you can now officially participate in the Pokémon Academy Ace Competition in the post game. In this tournament, you'll compete in four consecutive rounds against trainers who send Pokémon level 65 or higher into battle.
You can repeat the tournament as many times as you wish and use it to level up your Pokémon, among other things. This makes the Ace Tournament the perfect preparation for Raids with five and six stars.
Once you complete the main story of Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet, you will automatically unlock five-star Raids. However, if you want to tackle the final six-star level in the post game, you'll need to activate the Academy's Ace Challenge and complete it once. You will then fight in five-star raids until you receive a message from Jim that six-star raids are now available. This should be the case when you have completed ten five-star raids.
Finally, special seven-star Tera Raids, where particularly powerful Pokémon await you. These raids are linked to time-limited live events and are only accessible if you have unlocked the six-star raids in the post game.
During Tera Raid events, special Pokémon are available in Paldea that you cannot otherwise find in the region. The events last three days each and can be activated via the PokéPortal News option in the menu under PokéPortal → Secret Gift. The following events are coming up in the next few weeks:
If you're tired of battling wild Pokémon and other trainers in the post game of Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet ends, you can easily turn your attention to breeding Pokémon. We'll explain exactly how this works in our guide to hatching eggs.
