The prime planets for building outposts in Starfield are those rich in resources. Our guide highlights the most lucrative planets across the universe for resource harvesting.

Best Outpost Locations (TLDR):

  • Top picks for outpost locations include Voss, Bessel III-b, and Skink.
  • Indum III-b stands out by offering up to 7 resources at once.
  • Those are Cobalt, Iron, Copper, Nickel, Tantalum, Water, and Ytterbium.
  • There's no need to upgrade the “Colonize Planets” skill to build an outpost.

The Finest Planetary Picks for Your Starfield Outpost

When setting up an outpost in Starfield, choosing a resource-rich planet is crucial. However, it's not just the quantity of resources that matters but their distribution across the planet as well. We've scoured the Starfield cosmos to find planets where resources are densely packed. This allows extractors to mine multiple resources simultaneously, with up to 7 different types on one planet.

Haven't built an outpost in Starfield yet? Then you must check out our ultimate outpost guide! It covers everything you need to know about building, expanding, and defending your outpost.

A civilian outpost in Starfield, not located at a lucrative spot.

To settle on most of the planets listed below, you won’t need a “Colonize Planets” skill upgrade, meaning you won't face extreme weather or environmental challenges. You just need to have the necessary resources for outpost construction and extractors in your inventory.

7 Resources in One Spot? Head to Indum III-b

One of the absolute best spots for an outpost in Starfield is Indum III-b, a moon of planet Indum III. It's found in the system of the same name, close to Alpha Centauri. Remember, this system also includes the planet Jemison, near the game’s quasi-starting point, the metropolis of New Atlantis.

But knowing the location of Indum III-b isn’t enough since its resources aren’t uniformly distributed. We’ve marked in green on the screenshots below a spot where 7 different resources overlap.

Once there, activate your handheld scanner to find a good outpost site, that is, near these resource deposits. When you drill down an extractor, the small window on the left (“Available Resources”) should list 7 resources.

Resources available for extraction here include:

  • Cobalt (Co)
  • Iron (Fe)
  • Copper (Cu)
  • Nickel (Ni)
  • Tantalum (Ta)
  • Water (H2O)
  • Ytterbium (Yb)
