Once again, DayZ joins the big boys, breaking its own player record in the steam charts for the second time in just one year. Never before have so many people playing at the same time! We’ll tell you all about the record-breaking and why DayZ is more popular than ever.
What’s this about? DayZ is one of those players that face-braked violently after a strong jump. It wasn’t until the second attempt that fans returned to DayZ. In the meantime, so many players returned that DayZ broke the 8-year-old player record from release day. But what’s the reason for that and what does it mean for the future of DayZ?
Concurrent DayZ players per day (annual average via Steam Charts):
- Release day in 2013: 45,000 players
- 2015: 10,000 players
- 2016: 6,000 players
- 2018: 3,500 players
- 2019: 15,000 players
- Last record break in 2021: 46,000 players
DayZ breaks Steam Charts Record by 12,000 Concurrent players in October 2022
How many players are playing DayZ? DayZ set the new record just a few days ago. With around 58,500 concurrent players, the survival game beats its old record by a whole 12,000 players who are in the game at the same time. By the way, these numbers only apply to the PC, player numbers from Xbox and PlayStation cannot be viewed.
What is the reason for the growth? Recently, the developers of DayZ released the update 1.19. Among other things, the content update brought a heavily revised version of the Livonia map including underground bunkers, a Humvee. The patch notes of update 1.19 are chock-full of cool new features. There are also the first signs of a Halloween event for DayZ.
However, we must not forget who is responsible for the lion’s share of DayZ’s player growth: The community and their modding projects. Without these mods, DayZ would probably never have exploded in the Steam charts. More and better mods are flooding DayZ, making it the game it was at its peak in 2013. Depending on the server, you can now even compete against AI soldiers, attack their convoys, complete missions, fly helicopters, or escape to various maps like Namalsk or Deer Isle. Or how about a nostalgic old-school trip back to DayZ Epoch?
What can we expect in the future of DayZ?
The DayZ roadmap for 2022 shows that we’re almost at the end of the content line for this year. Between now and the end of the year, we expect a few more in-game events and smaller patches, but no new content. We don’t know yet what will happen with DayZ in 2023 from the official side. The modding community will certainly continue to provide us with new content.
