The developers of Escape From Tarkov have made a big secret about their announcement "Death is in The Air" for a few days. Now it's clear that the teaser trailer was the announcement of the long-awaited arena game. What this means, we'll tell you now.
What happened? On the YouTube channel of the Tarkov developers you could admire a timer for two days. It ticked down to June 03, at 22:45 (CET). Fans and we speculated heatedly about the content, which many thought could have been a teaser for the new map Terminal or the wipe. But now we know what was really hidden behind the mysterious video: The Arena game mode for Escape From Tarkov.

That's what the trailer shows: The teaser itself is very short at just 160 seconds, but it shows detailed gameplay. You see a real arena whose organizers have set it up in the terminal of an airport. In the center is a discarded airplane, with clutter made of crates, suitcases and other junk to the left and right.
The number of participants seems to be limited to 10 players, and they split into two teams. 5 vs. 5 fast PvP, for training, experimenting and getting clobbered.
Is there any information about the release? Currently, there is no information except for the few seconds of gameplay and the announcement itself. The arena mode for Escape From Tarkov could be themed during the Summer Games Fest 2022. Tarkov has already been part of the program in recent years and presented new development progress such as the new map Streets. There has recently been new information about the release of Streets of Tarkov.
The Arena game mode is supposed to bring more action to Escape From Tarkov. The developer Battlestate Games has based the game on classic game modes like Team Deathmatch. However, Arena is most similar to the genre of team shooters like Counter Strike, only without planting a bomb.

It has come to our attention that various websites are reporting that Tarkov Arena is actually a standalone game. While that was indeed the developers' plans at one time, it's unclear if those plans are still in place!
The past year has clearly shown how quickly Battlestate Games likes to adjust their plans. They recently built a coherent story out of various wipes and updates, and don't want to deviate from this rather randomly chosen path anymore.
