All Wand Cores and Their Differences
When assembling your wand, the most important part can’t be missing, of course: The core. In Hogwarts Legacy, you can choose from three wand cores, which are said to have different powers.
- Dragon Heartstring: Dragon Heartstring, used as a core, is known for producing powerful magic. Ollivander says, “Dragon heartstring is most powerful and learns quickly.”
- Unicorn Hair: The hair of a unicorn used as a staff core is known for producing consistent magic. Ollivander says, “Unicorn hair is most reliable.”
- Phoenix Feather: The feather of a phoenix used as a core is known for producing a wide range of magic. Ollivander says, “A strong sense of initiative.”
Developer Avalanche Software disregarded many cores when selecting the wand cores in Hogwarts Legacy. For example, we missed the Kelpie Mane or Veela Hair. Well, we don’t get to see such a core anyway, so it would merely be a nice-to-have for fans of the Potterverse. In general, whether the material of your wand really has an impact on your skills is something we have yet to find out in our current walkthroughs. But we will update this article in the coming days and attach the information.
Does the best wand exist? No, since most of the customization options are purely cosmetic, there is no significant difference between the wands. Thus, there is no such thing as the best wand in Hogwarts Legacy. But maybe it turns out, that there is the Elder Wand.
More about Hogwarts Legacy |
When do you Get your Own Wand in Hogwarts Legacy?
You won’t get your own homemade wand at the start of Hogwarts Legacy. Instead, your journey begins with an old model you brought from your last school. You are a student who has already mastered the basics of magic and even uses ancient magic. New to Hogwarts, you’ll start school directly in the fifth grade, not the first. In our play-through, it took around 2 hours to receive our truly custom wand. The time it takes to get your wand can vary. You may get to Ollivander earlier, or you may get to Ollivander later.
Can you still customize your wand later in the game?
Yes, you can still customize your wand later in the game. However, this does not apply to the aspects of your wand mentioned above. Within the game world of Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll encounter door puzzles or eyed boxes, you’ll have to crack. Among other things, these puzzles hide new grips. You can attach the grips to your wand. However, the core of the wand will always remain the same after the first choice, you won’t be able to change it.
