Sons of The Forest: HUD Explained – Muscle Symbol & Other Icons

In this guide, we’ll tell you what’s behind the muscle symbol in Sons of The Forest and why the armor has different colors!

What is it about? The HUD in Sons of The Forest isn’t exactly the easiest thing to use in the survival genre, but once you know which symbol stands for which purpose, you won’t forget it. Therefore, we will show you the meaning of each HUD element and explain the various symbols in the game.

The radar, all bars and the armor in Sons of The Forest explained

How many elements are there? Around the radar (minimap) you can discover three different beams. Two of them stick to the radar in a semicircle, the third bar nestles up against the left red one!

Red bar – The Healthpoints

The red semicircle shows you your health bar and gives you the current state of your health points. The longer you survive and the stronger you become — more on that later — the larger your health bar will become. Or rather, it doesn’t grow, it just slowly but surely gets more and more subdivisions.

How do you heal yourself? Once your health bar is empty, you can replenish it with the help of pills or homemade medicine. You can’t replenish your lives with food or sleep.

Blue-green bar – your load limit

The right blue-green bar shows you your endurance. There are two different display formats. The area that fills up, again and again, is your endurance itself. The area on the bar that does not fill up again reflects your maximum endurance. The more you exert yourself or the more tired you are, the more the bar empties.

How do you regenerate stamina? You can easily increase your maximum stamina with food and water. However, if your empty bar is due to exhaustion, you will need either:

  • Energy bars
  • energy drinks
  • Chair to rest on
  • Sleep

The outer bar next to the health points – your armor

The outer bar, which is either completely empty or colorfully filled, shows your armor value. Of course, there are different armor types in Sons of The Forest, all of which have a different effect on your character. In addition, each armor type has its own color. For example, tech armor is orange, mutant armor is pink. Each bar in the armor bar indicates a piece of armor. In total, you can wear 10 pieces of armor and combine them as you wish

How to stack armor? Let’s say it’s winter, what’s important? Sure, the winter jacket, which you can find thanks to our outfit guide. But what else? Furs and skins! You can get them in Sons of The Forest from deer, elk and hares. The armor pieces that keep you warm are unfortunately also the ones that protect you the least from damage. So first equip 5 to 7 warming furs, then on top 3 to 5 times bone armor or tech armor. These two armor types are the strongest. This way you protect yourself from some blows and don’t lose your warming layer of protection.

All symbols in Sons of The Forest explained – What is the muscle symbol?

How many symbols are there? Above the radar, there are 5 symbols in total. However, one of them does not always appear and others are almost self-explanatory. But what does the muscle icon above the radar mean?

What is the muscle symbol in Sons of The Forest?

The tensed arm, whose biceps are considerable, indicates your strength level. At the beginning of the guide, we told you that you will automatically get stronger during your digital forester life. The stronger you are, the more health points and maximum stamina you have. Until now, it wasn’t clear whether the strength level in Sons of The Forest also affects your attack power. We tested it with the Modern Axe and came to the conclusion that in does in fact make a small difference. With Level 2 we needed 15 Hits with the Tactical Axe to cut down a medium-sized tree. With Level 8 we needed 14 Hits.

How do you increase the strength level? You slowly increase in your strength level when you strike; whether it’s trees, enemies, animals or the air doesn’t matter. Yes, in fact, you also increase your strength by simply flailing around in the air.

The Eye Symbol – Hide!

The eye that appears next to the muscle symbol indicates whether you are ducked or visible to enemies. If the eye is there and open, then you are ducked. If it’s not there, you are standing. The emptier the circle around the eye, the better camouflaged you are.

How can you camouflage yourself? You can improve your camouflage with another armor type, which is then displayed in green in the bar. Here you have to combine leaves with cloth and rope to make a kind of ghillie camouflage suit. The more pieces of armor you wear from this camouflage suit, the better you camouflage yourself from enemies.

  • Chicken leg: This symbol indicates how hungry you are at the moment.
  • The half-moon: The half-moon shows how tired you are. Green-filled means you are rested. Purple-filled means you’ve fueled up with energy drinks, herbal concoctions, or energy bars.
