Otters are cute little animals that you can carry comfortably on your shoulder in ARK: Survival Evolved. Tamed, they can also farm fish and silicon beads for you.
In our guide to the Otter, you will find out everything you need to know about the cute little animal. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.
This is the Otter in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: The Otter in ARK looks like a standard cute little Otter.
Wild: Otters are peaceful residents of the island who are mostly busy foraging for food. Many of them are naturally trusting and curious.
Tamed: Once you’ve tamed your Otter, not only can your little companion look cute, but he can also harvest fish for you if you ask him to. But you can also search and harvest silicon pearls. He’ll proudly bring it back to you. With a bit of luck, he might even bring a Black Pearl home with him.
How to tame the Otter in ARK
Otters are passively tamed, meaning you must feed them in order to tame them.
You must first kill one or more fish. Once you’ve done that, carry the fish in your hands to the Otter you want to tame. You have to get close to the Otter to feed the fish. As soon as the Otter says “Feed the fish”, you carry out the action.
How to feed an Otter in ARK
Once you have tamed your Otter, it is important to know what it likes to eat. Otters are fish eaters, which of course makes the choice of food easier.
- Dead fish:
- you get by fishing: Sabertooth Salmon, Coelacanth, Piranha
- Raw Prime Fish Meat:
- are obtained from Alpha Mosasaurus, Dunkleosteus, Electrophorus, Leedsichtys, Megalodon, and Sabertooth Salmon
- by cooking, it becomes the cooked fish fillet
- Raw fish:
- you get when gutting fish
- by boiling, it becomes boiled fish
How to breed the Otter in ARK
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of an Otter is 18 to 39 hours.
After successful mating, if you play on default settings, the female Otter will be pregnant for about 8 hours. After these 8 hours, you can welcome the little Otter baby into the world. As a baby, it takes another 2 hours of your attention, during which you have to keep putting food in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire maturing time takes about 21 hours.
