The correct navigation with your own raft can cause one or the other problem in Raft under certain circumstances. For example, if you get stuck on the coast of an island, it is often difficult to get off again.

In this guide, we explain how you can still manage to get out of your predicament and what else you have to consider when moving on the sea.

Full steam ahead! Proper navigation with the raft in Raft

What can I do if my raft gets stuck on an island? If you get stuck on an island, there are several ways to free yourself, depending on how far you've upgraded your raft. But you need at least one paddle to be able to move.

You can make the paddle yourself by combining four wooden planks, six plastic parts, and two ropes. You can fish out all these components from flotsam in the sea.

What other forms of rafting are there? In addition to the paddle, you can also use a sail and a boat engine in Raft. While you can use the paddle to move your raft in any direction and, above all, turn it, the sail only supports you when you are sailing downwind. You can increase your speed by paddling downwind.

You craft the sail very easily:

  • 10x wooden planks
  • 20x palm leaves
  • 3x scrap

You also need a pennant to be able to determine the wind direction:

  • 6x wooden planks,
  • 3x ropes,
  • 3x nails

How do I use the sail correctly? You can use the sail to move your raft up to 90° in either direction to the wind direction. The steeper the angle to the wind direction, the slower you travel. If you want to sail against the wind, you also need a paddle.

How do I get and use a boat engine? To unlock the boat engine as a crafting recipe, you must find the associated blueprint on Vasagatan and research the engine at the research table. You can then craft the engine using five metal ingots, five ropes, a circuit, and 20 planks of wood.

In order to be able to use the engine, you must also build a steering wheel. The associated blueprint can also be found on Vasagatan. Unlock the steering wheel at the research table and assemble it using 10 pieces of scrap metal, four metal ingots, four ropes, two bolts and two hinges. Now, to align your raft, simply turn the steering wheel - the raft will continue to turn until the steering wheel is back in the zero position.

If you want to set sail, you must now fill the engine with wooden planks or biofuel. A full tank (17 planks) is enough for ten minutes. A canister of biofuel runs the engine for twelve minutes. However, since the tank can only hold enough fuel for ten minutes, you should build additional fuel tanks and connect them to the engine with fuel pipes to avoid wasting fuel.

You can also run multiple motors on your raft in Raft to increase speed. This is worthwhile up to a maximum of four engines, which then also require a corresponding amount of fuel.

Lift anchor - How to use the anchors

What's with the anchors? There are two types of anchors in Raft, the throwing anchor and the stationary anchor. Both anchors do what the name says: they anchor your raft. However, the grappling anchor only works once and is consumed in the process. On the other hand, you can use the stationary anchor again and again.

To craft the grappling anchor, you need two planks, four ropes, and four stones. Drop the anchor in the water onto a foundation when you want to anchor. But remember: If a shark destroys the foundation, your raft will drift away.

The Stationary Anchor in Raft consists of ten planks, six ropes, three metal bars, and a hinge. You can use it as many times as you want, but you have to attach it to three foundations. If at least two of these foundations disappear, the anchor is destroyed.
