In Raft, the furnace is one of the most important tools you can use in the world of the survival game. You need the furnace to melt metal ore, titanium and copper or to dry raw materials like kelp, sand and explosive goo. We explain in our guide how to get the blueprint for the furnace and how to use it properly.

What's the point of the Melting Furnace in Raft?

Why do I need a melting furnace? As mentioned above, you need the furnace to melt ores and process resources such as sand, kelp, and explosive goo. These resources are among the most important components of other items in Raft and form the basis for many other crafting recipes. So you'd do well to get a smelting furnace as soon as possible.

How do I unlock the furnace? In order to build the furnace in Raft, you first need bricks. To do this, collect sand and clay from the bottom of the ocean. Research the bricks to unlock the furnace as a recipe.

To build a furnace, you need six bricks, four wooden planks, four units of scrap metal and six nails. You can fish wood, scrap and nails directly from the sea - look out for drifting barrels.

How does the furnace work? Once you've built a furnace on your raft, you'll need planks of wood to fire it up. You can put a total of four wooden planks into the furnace at the same time, with each plank keeping the fire going for 50 seconds. Depending on what material you feed the kiln to process, it will take different amounts of time to finish:

  • Metal -> Metal ingots (80 seconds)
  • Copper -> Copper ingots (80 seconds)
  • Seaweed -> creeper goo (45 seconds)
  • Sand -> Glass (60 seconds)
  • Explosive goo -> Explosive powder (80 seconds)
  • Titanium ore -> Titanium ingot (120 seconds)

What about the electric melting furnace?

What are the advantages of the electric melting furnace? The electric furnace is an upgraded version of the traditional furnace in Raft. The upgrade allows you to put more resources into the furnace at once: Unlike the normal furnace, you have the ability to process not just one, but three items at a time. In addition, the electric furnace no longer needs planks as resources, but instead uses a battery.

Where can I find the blueprint for the electric furnace? In order to build the electric furnace, you first need the corresponding blueprint. You will find it relatively late in the game, on the second island of the third chapter, Temperance.

Once you've explored the island a bit, you'll eventually come to a lab where a laser puzzle awaits you. Solve the puzzle and head to the reactor room, where you'll find not only the blueprint, but also a new unlockable character for Raft named Shogo. How do I build an electric furnace? Once you have found the blueprint, you can assemble the electric furnace on your raft. However, you will need a few more unusual items than for the traditional model:

  • 10 bricks
  • a circuit board
  • six metal ingots
  • six titanium ingots
More about Raft

You can make the circuit board in Raft from creeper goo, two copper ingots and five plastic pieces. But you have to explore it first. Titanium ore is most likely to be found on Tangaroa Island, where, if you're lucky, it can be found in the briefcases lying around in the buildings on the island. A metal detector will also help you in your search.
