An arachnophobia mod has recently been released for Starfield, which puts disgusting spiders into the hulls of various bots. Here's all the info on the saving mod, including installation instructions.

Here's the deal: Help, there are spiders in Starfield, and not just on one planet, but on several. On top of that, the evil eight-legged creatures come in several sizes and shapes, so an arachnophobia mod for arachnophobes makes sense.

The modder ChaosPearl now answered this call with the mod "CP's Flyswatter", which is available on the website Nexusmods. This makes almost all of the game's spiders a thing of the past, with ChaosPearl working towards truly banishing all arachnids from the role-playing game.

What Exactly Does the Arachnophobia Mod "CP's Flyswatter" do?

At the time of its release, on September 21, CP's Flyswatter replaces all spider aliens known to the creator with various bots already included in Starfield. Specifically, the modification lets spiders roll through the landscape in the form of security bots, garden bots and sanitation bots.

An unpleasant surprise: Spider aliens on the planet Eridani III in the Eridani system. (Starfield)

As modder ChaosPearl proactively explains via FAQ, there might still be isolated encounters with spider-like monsters even after applying the modification. This is simply due to the fact that about two weeks after the release of Starfield, there is still no complete documentation about spider aliens in the game.

With this in mind, ChaosPearl encourages players to report spiders to her in their original form so that she can modify the gruesome finds accordingly. So CP's Flyswatter is still in development for now, but is already doing spider-phobes some good.

Thanks to CP's Flyswatter mod for Starfield, spiders and insects become security bots.

How to Install the Arachnophobia Mod for Starfield

CP's Flyswatter comes in two versions:

  • Arachnophobia version. Replaces only creatures that can trigger Arachnophobia.
  • Full version. Replaces a whole bunch of creepy giant insects, including all the spiders from the Arachnophobia version.

Download the desired version of CP's Flyswatter under the "Files" tab on the Nexusmods website. You will then receive one of the ZIP archives "CP_Flyswatter_Arachnophobia_1.0" or "CP_Flyswatter_Full_1.0". If you haven't installed any such replacer mods for Starfield yet, you have to create an ini file. Proceed as follows:

Create with a word processor like Word (Pad) or a code editor like Notepad++ the document "StarfieldCustom.ini" (without quotes). Important: The document must be saved in .ini format. The extension ".ini" is appended to the file name accordingly.

More about Starfield

The "StarfieldCustom.ini" file must contain the following text:

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Once this is done, copy the document to the "Data" folder under the path \Users\Your Name\Documents\My Games\Starfield.

CP's Flyswatter may change the appearance of the spiders, but the loot remains the same. (Starfield)

If StarfieldCustom.ini is in place, unpack the downloaded archive using, for example, 7-Zip (install, right-click, "Unpack Here") or, starting with Windows 11, similarly using the system's built-in unpacking system.

Place the unzipped folder in the "Data" folder (for example "CP_Arachnophobia_1.0") under the path \Users\Your Name\Documents\My Games\Starfield. That's it! The next time you start Starfield, most (and eventually all) of the spiders will be gone.
