In the survival classic The Forest, a total of two key cards are waiting for you to find them. Both are very important for your advancement in the game's main story.
Both the employee key card and the golden key card are important story items in The Forest. You need the first key card, namely the employee card, in order to complete the game. Because without this key card you cannot make it to Timmy and therefore cannot save him. The second golden key card is also very important for the course of the game. It opens numerous doors for you in the Sahara laboratory and is a prerequisite for the alternate ending of The Forest.
To find the employee key card, you must go to Cave 6, also known as the Lawyer's Cave. The easiest way to enter the cave is in the cliff passage on the beach. Just look out for the numerous shipping containers lying around and from there walk up the hill towards the interior, and you can't miss the entrance. Relatively, at the beginning of the cave, you get the opportunity to save your progress. You should definitely take advantage of this offer because the key card is guarded by an Armsy and several mutant babies.
The entrance to Cave 6 is just above the containers.
Run past the rope on your right and keep going straight to the next rope. Slide down and defeat the three gray mutants waiting for you there. Here you have the choice between two directions. Go right, destroy the small wooden barricade and keep running until the next rope.
From here you can look down into the cave onto a pile of corpses. This is guarded by the Armsy and the mutant babies. Once you've defeated them, you'll find the Staff Keycard relatively at the end of the pile of dead bodies. Warning: the map is very easy to miss between the many corpses.
You only get the golden keycard after defeating the final boss of The Forest. You can find this in the secret laboratory. For your way to the boss you should prepare yourself well and take some equipment with you:
To get to the secret laboratory, you must use the cave entrance northwest of the sinkhole. Fight your way through the cave and climb all the way down in the large chamber using the numerous climbing ropes and the climbing axe. Mutants are already waiting for you on the cave floor. Flatten them and squeeze through the gap into the next cave. Walk straight and turn right into a passage and then climb down the rope. There you will find a tent for saving and sleeping.
Then keep walking straight ahead, smash your way through the wooden wall and keep walking until you come to the big hall. Stick to the left wall and run between the first two totems to the next wooden wall. Make your way through these too and swim through the lake that awaits you in the next room. On the other bank you can blast your way free with dynamite.
In the room beyond, two Armsies are waiting for you guarding a gate. You can open this gate by weighing the small pedestal in front of it with stones. The next gate works the same way. Keep going straight, squeeze through the next passage and open the last gate. Now you find yourself at the bottom of the sinkhole.
It's best to run past the strong opponents that are running around everywhere. Sprint to the center of the sinkhole and dive down through the hole in the water and straight ahead through the large arches. As soon as you surfaced again, it's time to walk straight ahead and climb again. In a large and high room you will again find a tent for saving and sleeping. Behind it the laboratory door is waiting for you, which you can open with the employee card.
Run through the lab to the final boss and crush him. Once you've done that, you need to carry the little girl the boss spawned out of back into the station and place it in the resurrection obelisk in the large lab. The girl then falls to the ground and drops the golden key card.
The Staff Keycard is mandatory to complete The Forest main story. With her you can open the door to the secret laboratory and face the final boss.
You can use the gold key card to open doors within the Sahara Laboratory. For example, you can't get into the hallway leading to the Sahara Cave or the elevator to the observatory without it. So you need the golden keycard to unlock the alternate ending of The Forest.
