At the end of July, the developers of DayZ gave a first look at version 1.22 (1.55 on console) in a livestream. There won't be much new content, but more backpacks are coming to the game! We summarize all the information for you!
Here's what it's all about: On July 26, Creative Lead Adam Franců and Brand Manager Matěj Smrček held a DayZ stream together via Twitch, where they talked about what's new in version 1.22. The update goes live today on 29. August at 1.00 p.m. CEST.
In the July 26, 2023 stream, Creative Lead Adam Franců and Brand Manager Matěj Smrček talked about DayZ Update 1.22 (1.55), and not much information came around. Update 1.22 won't bring much new content and will focus more on balancing and QoL improvements. The only new content seems to be backpacks.
According to Adam, there will be approximately 12 new backpacks or other bags. The following backpacks were presented in the stream:
In addition to the backpacks, there is also a new variant of fingerless gloves that spawns in white. The spawn rate of the backpacks will also be balanced with update 1.22 (1.55). Low-tier backpacks are supposed to spawn more frequently and thanks to the new bags, offer more variations. However, high-tier bags like military backpacks will spawn less frequently, making finding them much more rewarding than it is currently.
Melee combat still doesn't feel good in DayZ, at least that's the feedback from the community. The developers are working on it and are bringing a new iteration of melee combat to the game with 1.22 (1.55). For example, all melee weapons should have a different chance of bleeding effects, and armor can also reduce the chance of bleeding the better it is. Blunt weapons now have a much lower chance of bleeding but are perfect for shock damage.

Other QoL Improvements: Other planned QoL improvements include improving the server list; Color matching player numbers. Direct connections to private servers. They will also address the issue of Infected Ai, which is still a long time coming. The overhaul of the Northwest Airfield, as announced in the DayZ Roadmap 2023, does not yet take place with 1.22 and will probably also take some time.
