The Snow Owl from ARK: Survival Evolved can only be found on Extinction and Lost Island, where it makes its home in the snow biomes. However, you can also meet the R variant Snow Owl in the mountains on Genesis Part 2.
Find out everything you need to know about the great snowy owl in our guide to Snow. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him and breed offspring too.
This is the Snow Owl in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: The Snow Owl, as the name suggests, is a giant snowy owl. The only thing that makes them different from normal owls is their size and head. Her face is outlined in black with a bioluminescence glowing blue. It has four large antennae on its head that allow it to see thermal signatures.
Wild: You’ll be able to find her in the air and on the ground when she’s resting. The Snow Owl will only attack you if you attack or provoke it. With the help of its claws, it can slow down or fix its prey.
Domesticated: Tamed, she is a perfect beast for scouting enemy bases or finding element veins in the ground thanks to her thermal vision ability, which she can share with you as a rider. In addition, it can be very useful in combat when it freezes or slows down opponents.
How to tame the Snow Owl in ARK
How to hunt the Snow Owl: You can tame the Snow Owl with or without a trap, depending on how easy or how difficult you want to make it.
Without a trap: Take your crossbow or bow and equip them with tranquilizer darts. Now shoot the Snow Owl, preferably when it has just landed on the ground. After you hit her she will attack you and you can keep shooting her until she is knocked out. However, you will take damage and possibly your mount, if you have one with you, will intervene, which can quickly lead to the Snow Owl being taken down.
To prevent this, you can “park” your mount a little further away. Also, don’t run near him during the Snow Owl’s attack.
With trap: Of course it is easier, but also more complex with a trap. You build the trap by placing two stone gates (big enough for the Snow Owl) opposite each other with enough distance and then connecting them with stone fence foundations. On top of the foundations you then place stone door frames as tall as the stone gate is. Finally, all you have to do is cover everything with the stone ceiling.
Leave one gate open and close the other. Provoke the Snow Owl by hitting it when it follows you or wants to attack you, run through the open gate into the trap and close the open gate as soon as it is inside.
You can now easily shoot them unconscious through the stone door frames.
How to tame her: Once she’s unconscious, put meat or kibble in her inventory and feed her that. To keep the Snow Owl down and the stun value up, it’s best to use the anesthetic or Narcoberries.

How to breed the Snow Owl in ARK
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of a Snow Owl is 18 to 48 hours.
How to Hatch Eggs: When you get a fertilized Snow Owl egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 12 °C and 13.5 °C and in the egg incubator at 13 °C. According to standard settings, the little Snow Owl baby hatches after about 3 hours. After that, it takes about 5.5 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting food in its inventory.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire maturing time takes about 2 days and 6.5 hours.
