Valheim: Where to Find Iron

The Viking co-op survival Valheim doesn't explain many things and lets you try out a lot in its open game world. But to get better equipment, you also need iron. We'll tell you how to get the ore.

You have to keep this in mind: Before you storm off to search for ores, you must first successfully defeat the first boss Eikthyr. Namely, it drops an important resource that will teach you how to make a pickaxe. You require it to mine the ores.

If you're looking for iron, you should have found or made copper, tin, and bronze beforehand, and you should be wearing the best bronze equipment possible.

How to get Iron in Valheim

To make even better weapons and equipment than is possible with bronze, you will eventually need Iron. But finding that is not as safe as it was with copper or tin. But there are three ways to achieve your goal:

1. Meteorite crater: You can find these craters randomly scattered all over the map from the Black Forest. However, the craters are guarded by Surtlings, little fire demons. If you defeat them, you can then calmly mine the meteorites.
2. Iron deposits: Of course, iron can also be found in deposits. The iron deposits are found both in swamp areas and in the mountains. Both are very dangerous regions and nothing for poorly equipped players.
3. Dungeons: In the “Sunken Crypts” in the swamp biome, slippery piles called “Muddy Scrap Piles” can be broken down with bronze pickaxes. This gives you Iron Scraps, Leather Scraps, and Withered Bones. But you can also find iron scraps in the boxes of the crypt. You then throw the iron scraps into your smelter and get the iron.

However, like copper and tin, iron ore is quite heavy, and you can only take a limited amount of it with you.

Useful tip: if you've already made a wagon, you can load it to the brim with ore. If you've already built a portal and are considering teleporting from your base to the deposit, you'd better leave it alone. The valuable ore is lost during teleportation.

The next step would then be to defeat the third boss to find the resource silver subsequently.
