The Ichthyosaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved looks like a fish, but it’s actually a marine reptile. Slightly larger than a human, he is the perfect mount for exploring the seas and waters around the island.
Find out everything you need to know about the curious ocean dweller in our Ichthyosaurus guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.
This is the Ichthyosaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: Considering the great giants of the seas, the Ichthyosaurus tends to be a small swimmer. In terms of shape and appearance, it is very similar to a classic pike.
Wild: The Ichthyosaurus is mainly found in the shallow waters around the island. At around two meters long, the trusting carnivore is one of the smaller sea creatures. He is very interested in other creatures of his size and often follows people swimming in his body of water.
Domesticated: The Ichthyosaurus is mainly domesticated to explore and explore the island’s underwater world. He is a very fast swimmer and since he is very affectionate and can be easily tamed without violence using only food, the taming process is very simple.
How to tame the Ichthyosaurus in ARK
How to hunt the Ichthyosaurus: When taming an Ichthyosaurus, there really is no such thing as hunting. The fast swimmer is so trusting that he will come to you on his own as soon as you swim in his waters. The only thing you have to watch out for is not to lose sight of the Ichthyosaurus, as they like to swim away and only come back after a while.
How to tame it: To tame an Ichthyosaurus, all you have to do is swim very close to it. Most of the time he will swim to you on his own as soon as he spots you. When you’re close enough, all you have to do is place the Dodo kibble (recipe below) in his inventory and the taming process will begin.
As mentioned before, the only danger is that the Ichthyosaurus will swim away before you put the food in its inventory. So always keep an eye on him.

How to breed the Ichthyosaurus in ARK
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you should ideally build an enclosure directly on the bank that is large enough. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of an Ichthyosaurus is 18 to 48 hours.
After a successful mating, if you play on default settings, the female Ichthyosaurus will be pregnant for about 8 hours. After the 8 hours, you can welcome the little Ichthyosaurus baby into the world. As a baby, it takes up another 9.15 hours of your attention, during which you have to keep putting food in its inventory.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire ripening period lasts about 3 days and 20 hours
