ARK: Survival Evolved: Tapejara – How to tame, feed and breed!

The Tapejara featured in ARK: Survival Evolved is a unique flying animal that can carry two additional passengers in addition to the pilot. These can use their weapons while flying, which can be very useful for taming other creatures or in a fight.

In our guide to the Tapejara, you will find out everything you need to know about the pterodactyl. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.

This is the Tapejara in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: The Tapejara is a medium-sized pterosaur with a large crest on its head for balance. It is often confused with its smaller relative, the Pteranodon, because of its appearance. In addition, its wings, like those of a modern flying fox, are connected to its feet.

Ferocious: In its own way, it is also similar to the Pteranodon: It will occasionally land on land and flee at any sign of danger, even if you approach it without even having attacked it.

Tamed: Tamed, the Tapejara is an awesome mount because you can use its saddle with three people. While the pilot holds the reins, two other passengers can use their weapons. In addition, the Tapejara has virtually no turning circle, and can therefore rotate 180 degrees on the spot like a helicopter. In order to be able to shoot as a pilot, you have to “park” him on a tree or something similar.

How to tame the Tapejara in ARK

How to hunt the Tapejara: You can try to hit the Tapejara directly in the air, which is unlikely to succeed as it will do the nozzle at the slightest sign of danger.

Like the Pteranodon, it’s far more promising to pin it down with a bola while it’s on the ground. To do this, throw your bola at him as soon as he lands. Once he’s trapped, you can start shooting the tranquilizer darts at him.

How to tame him: Once he’s unconscious, put meat or kibble in his inventory and feed him that. The better the meat, the faster the taming, but the Kibble works best. To keep the Tapejara down and the stun value up, it’s best to use the Narcotic or Narcoberries.

How to make the Tapejara saddle

To craft the Tapejara Saddle, you need to be level 55 and 21 Engram Points to unlock the recipe. You now need the following resources to craft:

  • 260x Hide
  • 180x Fiber
  • 120x Wood
  • 45x Metal Ingots

How to feed a Tapejara in ARK

Once you have tamed your Tapejara, it is important to know what it likes to eat. Tapejara is a carnivore, which of course makes the choice of food easier.

  • Superior Kibble:
    • Ingredients: 1x Large Egg, 1x Prime Meat Jerky, 5x Fiber, 2x Citronal, 2x rare mushroom, 1x Sap, 1x Water.
    • Ingredients Prime Meat Jerky: 1x Cooked Prime Meat, 1x Oil, 3x Sparkpowder.
  • Kibble (Allosaurus Egg)
    • Ingredients: 1x Allosaurus Egg, 1x Savoroot, 1x Cooked Prime Meat, 2x Mejoberries, 3x Fiber, 1x Water
  • Raw Mutton:
    • Received by gutting Ovis.
    • Cooking turns it into the Cooked Lamb Chop
  • Raw Prime Meat:
    • Gained when gutting larger creatures
    • Cooking turns it into Cooked Prime Meat
  • Raw Prime Fish Meat:
    • Obtained from Alpha Mosasaurus, Dunkleosteus, Electrophorus, Leedsichtys, Megalodon, and Sabertooth Salmon
    • Cooking turns it into the Cooked Prime Fish Meat
  • Raw Meat:
    • Earned by gutting a creature
    • Cooking turns it into Cooked Meat
  • Raw Fish Meat:
    • Received from gutting fish
    • Cooking turns it into Cooked Fish Meat

How to breed the Tapejara in ARK

This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.

The breeding interval of a Tapejara is 18 to 48 hours.

How to Hatch Eggs: Once you have obtained a fertilized Tapejara egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 29 °C and 32 °C and in the egg incubator at 31 °C. According to standard settings, the little Tapejara baby hatches after about 1.5 hours. After that, it takes about 5.5 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting food in its inventory.

Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed from troughs on its own. The entire maturing time takes about 2 days and 6.5 hours.
