The Allosaurus isn’t quite as well known in ARK: Survival Evolved as the carnivores it resembles, but when tamed it gives you a special pack advantage that boosts attack and defense.
Find out everything you need to know about the carnivore in our Allosaurus guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.
This is the Allosaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: In terms of physique, the Allosaurus is similar to the Carnotaurus and the T-Rex. The Allosaurus is larger than the Carnotaurus, has longer arms, and has bony plates and osteoderms on the head and back. He has a crest over each of his eyes. However, its teeth are just as sharp and dangerous as those of its relatives.
Wild: Basically; even if you only see one Allosaurus, two more are not far away. Similar to the Raptor, the allosaurus also hunts in packs. These packs consist of three allosaurs, one of which is the alpha and leader of the group. If one attacks you, the others will usually wait until you’re injured and then attack to finish you off.
Domesticated: A tamed Allosaurus is not as fast or as strong as its relatives, but offers special abilities in a pack. Once you have tamed a pack of allosaurs, the highest-ranked one gets alpha status and a pack boost. This offers you the following advantages with the Alpha:
- increases damage dealt by 50%
- reduces damage taken by 25%
- an additional attack that slows the target and deals damage through bleeding
- the ability to roar – when the alpha roars, the pack roars

How to tame the Allosaurus in ARK
How to hunt the Allosaurus: First, you should eliminate the pack of the Allosaurus you want to tame, so you don’t get attacked by three of these killers. Once you have done this, you have several options for catching and taming the Allosaurus.
The simplest is to set bear traps around you and lure him into them. Once he’s pinned down, smack him with the tranquilizer darts.
If you have leveled up enough stamina and speed, you can of course run away from him and shoot tranquilizer darts at him again and again. It’s not the smartest way to tame it, but it can work.
The safest way is to build a trap for him like the T-Rex out of three Dino stone or metal archways. Set up the gates in a square shape and place a bear trap or two in the middle. Make sure you always leave a little space between the goals. Now use the gates and close all the gates except for the two you escape through.
Now you lure in the Allosaurus. You provoke him into following you. The important thing here is that you have a faster mount or a very high movement speed so that you can also escape. If he follows you, run through the open gates of your construction – but don’t step into the bear trap yourself.
Once the Allosaurus is stuck in the bear trap, close the two open gates and shoot it with tranquilizer darts until it is knocked out. You can easily do this through the gaps you left between the gates. Depending on the Allosaurus’ level, this may take some time and resources.
How to tame him: Once he’s unconscious, put meat or Kibble in his inventory and feed him that. The better the meat, the faster the taming. The best way to keep the Allosaurus down and the stun value up is to use the anesthetic.

How to breed the Allosaurus in ARK
This is how you prepare for breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, at best you build an enclosure that is large enough. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of an Allosaurus is 18 to 48 hours.
How to Hatch Eggs: When you get a fertilized Allosaurus egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 26 °C and 32 °C. According to standard settings, the small Allosaurus baby hatches after about 2 hours. After that, it takes about 4.5 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting meat in its inventory.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed from troughs on its own. The entire ripening time lasts about 1 day and 22.5 hours.
