With the latest update of Smalland from today, May 10, 2023, some novelties came into the game, such as the possibility of taming the hornet. Our guide will show you how to tame it.
What this guide is about: The first update of Smalland allows you to tame the hornet as a mount. However, you have to do a few things first, to make it possible to tame the hornet.
To unlock the recipe for the hornet treat, you need to find the historian, who is located in the ruins. Getting there is quite difficult without a flying mount, so you should tame the damselfly. In the ruins, besides cockroaches, stag beetles, and flies, new spider enemies, the colony spiders, are awaiting you. So be well armed or activate the peaceful mode to avoid being attacked.
You will find the historian below the ruins. You can get there via a staircase at the end of the island – it's best to take a torch with you.
Tip: Kill all the colony spiders you come across and collect the loot, especially Colony Spider Abdomen
When you reach the historian, ask him all the questions you are allowed to ask. Afterward, you'll get the recipe for the hornets' treat.

After your conversation with the historian, you can open the inventory menu and search under the “Codex” tab at the stone oven to see what ingredients you need for the hornet treat. You need to have these ingredients together to prepare the hornet treat in the stone oven:
Once you have gathered all the ingredients, you can move to your base to the stone oven and make the treat.
As with the other insects and animals, you have to fight down about 50% of the hornet's health before the order appears that allows you to tame it.
Important: You can only have one tamed animal or insect, so leave yours, if you have one, free.
A tamed hornet is quite useful because you can fly with it, like with the damselfly, but it also supports you in battle like the wolf spider. Not only does it distract your enemies, but it also deals poison damage to them.
However, it can't fly on the water like the damselfly. So watch out for the energy; otherwise, it will quickly mean your end. This is quite impractical when you consider that you need a damselfly to get back to the ruins, where you can find the colony spiders.
