The Basilosaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved is a peaceful ocean dweller that is often accompanied by aggressive scavengers. Tamed, it is a swift mount that protects you from jellyfish and electric eel attacks.
Find out everything you need to know about this ocean dweller in our Basilosaurus guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him and breed offspring too.
This is the Basilosaurus in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: Being a member of the toothed whale family, the Basilosaurus bears a few physical resemblances to its distant relative, the orca. Basilosaurus has an elongated body and is similar in size to Mosasaurus. Its snout is elongated and full of sharp teeth for tearing at prey.
Wild: The Basilosaurus is a peaceful sea creature that often roams in shallow waters. Although peaceful in nature, it is often accompanied by groups of Ichthyosaurs and Manta Rays, of which the Manta Rays will attack you directly to protect the Basilosaurus. The Ichthyosaurs will immediately flee when attacking the Basilosaurus.
Tamed: With a tamed warm-blooded animal, like the Basilosaurus, you can quickly and easily explore the ocean. He also recovers quickly from injuries when swimming close to the surface, and is immune to electric eels and jellyfish. Its only weakness is its vulnerability to high water pressure, which slowly takes damage.
You can also harvest the Basilosaurus to get its Fat, which you can use to make high-quality Gasoline.
How to tame Basilosaurus in ARK
In order to tame a Basilosaurus, you must first get rid of its companions and potential enemies in the water. So look around that there aren’t any aggressive sea creatures around, or eliminate those that are. After that, provoke the manta rays surrounding the Basilosaurus by shooting at them. If they swim towards you, you can easily eliminate them. It would be helpful to have a mount that can support you well, such as the Megalodon.
Once you have eliminated all companions and potential attackers, place the kibble (recipe below) in the far right slot and swim towards the Basilosaurus. If you’re close enough to him, it should say “Feed special kibble to tame”. You do this until you tame him.

How to breed Basilosaurus in ARK
This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.
The breeding interval of a Basilosaurus is 18 to 48 hours.
After successful mating, if you play on default settings, the female Basilosaurus is pregnant for about 8 hours. After 8 hours, you can welcome the little Basilosaurus baby into the world. As a baby, it takes up another 11.5 hours of your attention, during which you have to keep putting food in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.
Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire ripening period lasts about 4 days and 20 hours.
