ARK: Survival Evolved: Troodon – How to Tame, Feed and Breed!

The Troodon in ARK: Survival Evolved is too small to be ridden, but still worth the effort to tame, as a tamed pack they can become a threat to any foe, no matter how large. This makes them the perfect companion animals for exploration, especially caving.

Find out everything you need to know about the carnivore in our Troodon guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.

This is the Troodon in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: A small relative of the raptors, the Troodon has a miniature physique. It has a few feathers but is not as feathery as the Microraptor. Its eyes glow at night and its teeth are jagged and sharp like those of its larger relatives, but unlike them, it is poisonous.

Wild: Like their raptor relatives, troodons hunt in packs, although the troodon is more intelligent. During the day, he has a small aggro radius, but you should still avoid him because of the pack. If you are spotted and bitten, this species’ venom will paralyze you, making you slower. These pesky little predators naturally have a high speed that will easily catch you if you haven’t improved your movement speed.

Especially at night, you should pay attention to their glowing eyes and run away immediately because Troodons are particularly aggressive at night.

Domesticated: Domesticated, the Troodon is useful, especially in a pack. If you have him as a companion in the pack, these little beasts can deal a lot of damage and quickly defeat opponents. Due to their small body size, they can accompany you everywhere, even in caves.

How to tame the Troodon in ARK

In order to tame the Troodon, you need strong nerves and creatures to sacrifice, because this little carnivore is passively tamed and fed with live food (see table below).

To make it easier for you, you build an enclosure. To do this, you first build foundations and then place fences on the edges. On one side, you place a gate, with a stairway or ramp leading into the enclosure.

Leave the gate open and lure the Troodon or Troodons into the enclosure. You can do this by provoking him or simply waiting for the night, as the Troodons are much more aggressive at this time. Once the Troodon is in the enclosure, close the gate. You can also simply grab the little carnivore with a flying animal and throw it into the enclosure. All that matters is that he gets in the way.

Once you’ve caught it in the exhibit, wait until nightfall as that is the only time you can tame it, and then place a dino in the exhibit from the table we’ve created below regarding feeding. You can also easily do this by simply dropping this creature into the pen with a flying mount.

Then all you have to do is wait for the Troodon to kill them and tame them. You may need to bring multiple creatures into the pen until the taming process is complete.

Tip: If you use babies or adult specimens of the dinos or creatures, there is less chance that the Troodon will be killed by them while taming.

How to Feed a Troodon in ARK

Once you have tamed your Troodon, it is important to know what it likes to eat. Troodons are among the carnivores that have a special feature: they eat live food. Our table shows you, from top to bottom, which creatures you can feed most effectively. The top two are the most effective creatures, and you only have to “sacrifice” a few of them. The further down you go in the table, the more specimens of the species you have to feed.

It is possible to feed these creatures as babies or adolescents, as they are not quite strong enough to kill the Troodon at this stage of development.

How to breed the Troodon in ARK

This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.

The breeding interval for a Troodon is 18 to 48 hours.

How to Hatch Eggs: When you get a fertilized Troodon egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. For this, the ambient temperature of the egg should be between 28 °C and 32 °C and in the egg incubator at 30 °C. According to standard settings, the little Troodon baby hatches after about 1 hour. After that, it takes about 2 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting food in its inventory.

Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire maturing time takes about 21 hours.
